How online document printing works

Print your documents using the Doxdirect online printing service

How to print online at Doxdirect

The ordering system at Doxdirect is simple to use. It is basically a 3-step process as detailed below. For further help, watch the introductory video on how to print online.

Before you upload your document to our online printing service you may wish to obtain a price quotation. Just click on the Estimate Print Prices button on the banner at the top of the page to calculate the cost.

Step 1 - select the document you wish to print

To begin the ordering process, click on the Start now button which you can find either on the home page or in the right-hand column of each page.

You will then be directed to a page showing various printing and binding options, for example wiro bound document, ring bound document, stapled document, hardback book etc. Click on the type of document you would like to order.

An 'open' dialogue box will appear to enable you to navigate to the file you wish to print. You may upload any documents that are in Word, Powerpoint or Adobe PDF formats. They may be portrait or landscape in orientation.

Select your document by either double-clicking on it or single clicking it and clicking the 'open' button - the file will then be uploaded to our secure server ready for you to select your choice of paper, colour, covers, etc. on the next step.

For help on uploading documents that are not in Word, Powerpoint or Adobe PDF formats see our FAQs page.

Step 2 - select printing and binding options

After uploading your document you will be directed to a configuration page where you can select your document printing and binding options. Just click on the relevant buttons to choose the type of binding, number of copies etc. you require, and then enter your delivery details. More information on the various printing, binding and delivery options can be found by clicking on the 'Help' buttons. When you are happy with your order, enter your payment details using our secure payment service.

If you are ordering a hardback or paperback book, you will be prompted to use the Cover Design Tool to specify or create the type of cover you would like and also to add any titles to the cover or spine of your book. The 'Help' buttons will guide you through this very simple process. Or watch our video on how to print a hardback book with custom cover.

If you have selected either ring or spiral binding, you may also add printed tabbed inserts. Watch the video on how to add tabbed inserts to a ring binder for information on how to do this.

Step 3 - sit back and wait for delivery

Your document will be printed and bound by Doxdirect and delivered directly to your door within the selected delivery time.

Document format

  • Contact Sales Office.
  • Selecting "<strong>Single Sided</strong>" will create a document that has printed text or graphics only on the facing page side of each sheet of paper in the document, the rear side of each page being blank. <br /><br />
Selecting "<strong>Double Sided</strong>" will create a document that has printed text or graphics on both sides of each sheet of paper. - This being the most commonly used format, examples being a Magazine, Book or Newspaper.
  • If your .pdf document is Colour, you may select the "<strong>Black and White</strong>" option in the drop down to have your document printed in Black and White or select Colour to have it in Colour. <br /><br />
If your .pdf document is Black and White, selecting "<strong>Colour</strong>" will have no effect and your document will still be printed in Black and White.
  • The standard recommended paper weights are 90gsm for black and white and 100gsm for colour. These are suitable for text documents with minor graphic content and will produce a good quality finish.<br/><br/>
If there are a lot of graphics or photos in your document, or you need a very high quality finish (for example, a saddle stitched brochure) we would recommend selecting the slightly thicker 120gsm or 170gsm Silk paper.<br/><br/>
For cards and other display documents we recommend 280gsm card.

Simply select "<strong>No Binding</strong>" and "<strong>No holes</strong>" and you will receive a quantity of un punched "Flyers".<br />
Selecting "<strong>Two Holes</strong>" will produce your printed document with two holes suitable for inclusion into a two hole Ring Binder. An example of using this option would be if you require a quantity of Punched sheets to update an existing Two Hole Ring Binder with new documentation.<br />
Selecting "<strong>Four Holes</strong>" will produce your printed document with four holes suitable for inclusion into a four hole Ring Binder. An example of using this option would be if you require a quantity of Punched sheets to update an existing Four Hole Ring Binder with new documentation.<br />
If "<strong>Ring Binder</strong>" is selected in the Binding Options above then only the 2 or 4 hole punching option will be available. The paper will then be punched as per selected Option and a Ring Binder supplied with those number of Holes.
